John J. Hayes (1870), merchant, of Boston, son of John and Anne Harding (Hug- gard) Hayes, was born in Killarney, Ireland, Jan. 26, 1845. He married Caroline Louise Raymond. He resided in Ireland until 1866. He obtained his early education at private schools in Dublin and at Trinity College in the same city. He began his business career as a clerk in the Bank of Ireland. In Boston, Mr. Hayes (1870) became a wine and spirit merchant. He was a member of the school board of the city of Boston from 1876 to 1880, and a member of the Massachusetts Senate, representing the Dorchester and Jamaica Plain District in 1886.
