Bert P Record is the husband of Leta Ethel Smith, sister of Frank Edward Smith, Bert was born March 8, 1878 near Dewitt Iowa. He married Leta Smith on July 3, 1905. Bert died in his home in Rock Island after a 10 year battle with an illness.
Leta Ethel Smith Record is the sister of Colleen’s great grandfather, Frank Edward Smith. After much research, some genealogists from the Rock Island area of Illinois found her obituary for me. Leta was born May 30, 1887 on a farm in Homboldt, Iowa. She married Bert Record on July 3, 1905 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Leta died in Rock Island on August 28, 1966.
Muyrll Turner was born Muyrll Record on August 25, 1909 in Rock Island, Illinois. She died at the age of 21 following two operations for an intestinal ailment. She was survived by her husband, Roy Turner, her son; Clarence and her daughter; Leta Ellen.
A special thanks to the folks at the Rock Island County illinois Genealogical Society for finding the obituary for Leta Ellen Butler for me. Born Leta Ellen Turner on 9 Aug 1929 in Moline, she married William Butler on November 19, 1965 in Rock Island.
Lloyd Lewis, 71, of Glen Mills, who for 19 years worked to improve the living conditions of senior citizens, died Thursday from pneumonia after treatment for acute leukemia.
In 1971, Mr. Lewis began his work with the elderly when he became founding executive director of the Kendal Organization in Kennett Square and established Kendal at Longwood, the first of the Kendal nonprofit life-care retirement communities.
Before that, Mr. Lewis worked at the Vanadium Corp. of America in New York for 11 years; the American Friends Service Committee in Philadelphia for about two years; and Pendle Hill, a Quaker adult-education center in Wallingford, for 11 years.
But it was his work at Kendal that inspired Mr. Lewis to devote the rest of his life to serving senior citizens. At the time of his retirement from Kendal six years ago, an estimated 2,000 seniors lived in Kendal properties in Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York and New Hampshire.
Mr. Lewis worked to improve the living conditions of seniors nationwide with the restraint elimination program, called Untie the Elderly, and led the effort by eliminating restraints from all Kendal facilities.
After retiring from Kendal, Mr. Lewis established a new company, US Retirement Communities, where he worked until last year.
He was active in the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Homes for the Aging and the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging, where he served on the executive board, its continuing care committee and its public policy committee
Mr. Lewis also served on the American Gerontological Society, the Committee on Aging of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting of Friends, and Friends Services for the Aging in Philadelphia.
In addition, he served on the board of Swarthmore College, where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in 1949, from 1985 to 1989 and again in 1990 until his death.
He was a bird-watcher and was a member of the Society of Friends.
Mr. Lewis is survived by his wife of 49 years, Eliza B. Lewis of Glen Mills; son Paul M. Lewis and daughter Laurie K. Lewis, both of West Chester; a sister; and two grandchildren.
Services are private. The family suggests contributions to either Swarthmore College or the Cape May Bird Observation Center for Research and Education, Cape May Court House, N.J.
Speros Condos, longtime resident of Stamford, CT, passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at the age of 94 at the Stamford Hospital. He was born in Houston, TX on November 26, 1912. He was the son of the late Thomas Condos and Mary Konzotsa Condos.
Mr. Condos worked for the Department of Parks and Recreation for the City of Stamford. He was an alum of the University of New Hampshire. He was very active with many sport programs in Stamford such as hardball and boxing along with his late twin brother George. He also enjoyed boating and fishing on the Long Island Sound.
He is survived by a niece, Jean Yerks of Port Chester, NY. He was predeceased by his wife, Marian Kileen Condos in February 1986, his parents, and two brothers, Nicholas and George Condos.
Family and Friends are invited to a funeral service that will be celebrated on Monday, October 8th at 10 am at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 1230 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, CT. Father Constantine Mathews will be the Pastor officiating. Interment will follow to Woodland Cemetery, in Stamford, CT. The family has entrusted the funeral arrangements to the Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Avenue, Stamford, CT.
Maryland special appeals judge and ocean mariner extraordinaire, Ridgely Melvin died at his Annapolis residence on Oct. 11, 1999. Ridge was born and lived almost his entire life at Melvin Point, overlooking the Chesapeake Bay’s South River. He came to Princeton from Alexandra, Va., Episcopal H.S., majored in politics, and was a member of Cap and Gown. He was on the freshman and jayvee swimming teams, played end on our championship 150-lb. football teams, and was active in the Yacht Club. During WWII Ridge served as an officer aboard the battleship Washington in the Pacific naval campaigns. As a devoted yachtsman from childhood, Ridge raced in a variety of classes and won the Triton Class Natl. Championship in the early 1970s. In 1985 he and wife Lucy sailed their sloop Song across the Atlantic. For the next eight years they lived aboard while sailing through European and Mediterranean waters.
Ridge’s law career was distinguished both as a judge and trial lawyer. He was a member of the three-judge panel that disbarred V.P. Agnew for “deceitful and dishonest conduct” and found him unfit as a member of the Maryland bar.
The class extends its sympathy to Ridge’s entire family including his sister, Elizabeth, widow of Don Patterson. We will miss Ridge.

Elizabeth Sommerville Melvin Patterson, 80, a five-year resident of the Blakehurst retirement community in Towson and a lifelong resident of Annapolis, died July 24 at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital in Virginia. Known as “Libby” and “Nanny,” Mrs. Patterson was born Feb. 10, 1923, in Annapolis, the daughter of the late Judge Ridgely P. and Augusta Burwell Melvin.
A homemaker, she loved to travel and read, and was a member of St. Anne’s Parish and the Hamilton Street Club. Her husband of 55 years, Donald H. Patterson, former publisher of The (Baltimore) Sun and president of the A.S. Abell Co., died Dec. 2, 1997.
She was the sister of the late Judge Ridgely P. Melvin Jr., Augusta Melvin Torgerson and Mary Melvin Clark.
Surviving are two sons, Donald H. Patterson Jr. of Virginia Beach, Va., and Timothy C. Patterson of Annapolis; two daughters, Elizabeth P. Langslet of Montvale, N.J., and Susan P. Davis of Annapolis; one brother, John B. Melvin of North Carolina; 14 grandchildren; and three greatgrandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, 199 Duke of Gloucester St. Burial will follow in Christ Church Cemetery in West River.

MARTINEZ – Wylda B Nimidoff, 81, died Tuesday at the Martinez Convalescent Hospital.
A homemaker, Nimidoff was a native of Paterson, N.J., and a resident of Martinez for the last 1-1/2 years.
Recitation of the Rosary will be at 6:15 p.m. Friday at Connolly & Taylor Chapel, Martinez. Entombment will be at the Bellevue Memorial Gardens, Daytona Beach, FL.
She is survived by her son, Joe Nimidoff of Oakland; daughter Cynthia of Lafayette; two sisters, Marie Scherer of Walnut Creek and Stephanie Sessions of Delhi, N.Y.; and three grandchildren.
